Overview
In this activity, you will come up with different ideas to solve a simple problem or improve a regular task. Your goal is to think of several possible solutions before picking one to develop further in the next activity. This step helps you approach problems from different angles and think creatively.
Learning Goal
You would be able to create a list of possible design solutions for a real problem and choose one idea to develop into a prototype.
Instructions
Step 1: Identify a Problem or Need
Think about a simple everyday problem or task that could be improved with a design solution.
Examples: organizing your day, tracking habits, finding information, or planning meals.
Step 2: Brainstorm 6 to 10 Ideas
Write down as many ideas as you can.
You can use any format such as a list of ideas, quick sketches, a mind map, or sticky notes. The ideas do not need to be detailed. Focus on coming up with a variety, not on perfecting them.
Step 3: Consider Accessibility
For each idea, think about how people with different needs can easily use or understand your design.
Examples: clear layout, big text or buttons, simple instructions, and easy navigation.
Step 4: Choose One Idea
Pick one idea from your brainstorm list.
Choose something simple, useful, and easy to draw or make as a basic model.
Step 5: Submit Your Brainstorm
Your submission should include the following:
- The problem or need you chose
- Your list of 6 to 10 brainstorm ideas
- A short note about accessibility for your ideas
- The final idea you selected for Activity 2
Example
Problem: Students often forget what assignments are due soon.
Brainstorm ideas:
- Assignment reminder app
- Weekly planner
- Paper checklist
- Assignment calendar
- Dashboard for all classes
- Visual assignment tracker
